When Jesus gets invited to spend dinner time with a family from Bethany there is always something to be learned.. This episode of our series Encounters focuses on two sisters named Martha and Mary. What can we learn from them? Is Jesus really elevating idle worship above dedicated work? The lesson might surprise you.
We continue our series "Encounters" with the story of a woman dealing with an issue of blood for 12 years. Her only hope is to touch Jesus and if she can touch His garment would be enough to heal her. However, to separate the encounter from the context would be missing the intention of story. It is while Jesus is on his way to heal Jairus' daughter who was 12 years old that the encounter takes place. Both stories are intrinsically connected as they both reveal our need for God whether you have been struggling with a long time struggle or you have followed the precepts of the law. How does Jesus heal both and what is revealed though this is powerful.
Do you see the Woman? This is the question Jesus asked Simon the pharisee at a dinner party. It is the question that we all need to ask ourselves in our perception of others. What religion does is strained our eyes on failures and shortcomings. There is a risk when we fail to see people the way Jesus sees them. In this part two of the Alabaster box, Martial breaks down the pitfalls of seeing differently than Jesus and how to overcome them.
